The derogatory comment, whilst unwelcome, nevertheless prompted swift action and a community based working partnership between the private, public and voluntary sectors was formed to challenge this statement.

The initiative was initially named Take a Pride in Perth but later changed to Perth in Bloom. In support of this community led initiative, Perth and Kinross District Council appointed a full-time Environmental Campaign Co-ordinator to encourage community participation and action in their local environment.

Perth in Bloom has grown considerably since those early days and is now a recognised Scottish Charity. It continues to be a very active environmental enhancement partnership involving
